I checked the SportRack website to verify the correct model for my 2006 Subaru WRX. The SR1009 is not an exact fit, but is certainly a lot cheaper than a Thule or Yakima model. It has soft rubber pads that help to conform to the shape of the factory roof bars. The way it is made, it can't slip down off the factory bars and contact the paint. I bought a set of crossbars (another brand) for my wife's Jeep and those bars could slip down so the mounting brackets would contact the roof. Not a problem with these. The "lock" is not that robust; it's just a keyed access cap to cover the adjusting nut. I suspect a stout screwdriver could pop it off if a thief were so inclined to do so.
I mounted the rage roof rack (bought from Amazon) to these bars on my Subaru. A LOT of wind noise, but I only use it a couple of weeks each year for vacations so it's not a constant bother. I haven't used the bars on a long trip, but I did "test" them by driving about 100 miles around town over the course of a week, they stayed tight and did not rattle at all.
You do have be careful installing the bars. The way the mounting brackets install and tighten around the bars makes it really easy to scratch the paint on your car. Lay a towel on the roof before you start installing if you are worried about your paint. These took about 20 minutes to install the first time, just because I did it by myself and had to do a lot of measuring to get the bars even. Took about 5 minutes to take off the first time and once you get them where you want them, I marked the bars with a marker to make it easier to get them reinstalled without all the measuring next time.
