The construction is reasonably good, but the bars themselves could be a bit more heavy duty (the rest of it -- feet, rubber pads, locks, bolts, are pretty good but the bars are fairly strong but kind of less strong than I expected).However it worked for our cross-country drive. We didn't put anything too heavy on it though, but that is probably a good strategy anyway for safety's sake.
According to the manual this appears to fit most cars. It has measured positions for different models, to help you install it to a given car model. However when we installed it with the given measured positions on our 08 Toyota Corolla, the bars were very close together. I expected it to have the bars further apart. So we tried to put the bars further apart. We could get it to be ~50% further apart than the instructions showed, but due to the curved nature of the roof and walls of the car we couldn't go much further. The bars are still kind of close together and the top surface of the front bar is angled downwards rather than being flat, but it worked okay. This is not the fault of the manufacturer but just that with a curvy car it is hard to place these far apart.
However all in all, it has performed well and easy to set up, so four stars.
