The idea of having an LED 3rd braking light was very tempting because the durability of LED lamps, they last forever, so I bought this lamp for my son in law's Jeep Wrangler. He installed it and we were really pleased, until it started raining or snowing and then the light would not light anymore. We thought it was completely damaged but not, I took a hair dryer and simply blew hot air all around and after15 to 20 minutes blowing hot air it came alive again.

So, what is wrong with it? Well let me compare it with the original incandescent light. The original lamp is covered by a hood that limits the amount of water reaching the lens, not on this lamp. On the original the lens is screwed to the hood creating a better seal, on this lamp the lens is just glued to the body creating a defective seal. On the original the cables come out through the bottom of the hood assembly using a tight grommet, on this Rampage 86615 Universal LED 3rd Brake Light the cables come out through the back using a grommet that is not as tight as the original lamp, so a lot of water or humidity leaks inside and the lamp stops working.

My recommendation, don't waste your money on this lamp. If you really need to replace your original lamp, just buy a brand new lamp or go to a junk yard and buy a used one.
